Stags display depth in sweep of Bryant, Hardin-Simmons

Twelve Stags contributed to a sweep of Bryant and Hardin-Simmons on Wednesday, as CMS remained undefeated heading into this weekend's Stag-Hen Invitational. CMS' singles depth and doubles dominance was again on display, with the Stags taking five of six doubles matches and dropping only three sets in twelve singles matches.

Against Division I Bryant University, the Stags got early breaks to take leads at all three doubles positions. CMS' Joe Dorn (Jr. - Washington D.C) and Warren Wood (Jr. - Del Mar, CA) won their fourth straight at the #1 position, while Skyler Butts (So. - Santa Ana, CA) and Neel Kotrappa (Sr. - LaVerne, CA) remained undefeated at #3. Up 2-1 after doubles, CMS earned straight set singles wins at #5 and #6, with Daniel Morkovine (Fr. - San Carlos, CA) and Zhenya Pereverzin (Sr. - Clackamas, OR) both winning by 6-3, 6-2 scores. Nik Marino (Jr. - San Diego) saved two set points in the first set tie-breaker, then earned a 7-6(6), 6-3 win at #3 to clinch the victory for the Stags.

In the twilight match against Division III west regional foe Hardin-Simmons, CMS swept the doubles convincingly, winning the last four games at #1 and #2, and the final three games at #3. Kotrappa contributed again with two wins, at #1 with Butts, and then at #3 singles. Sophomore Lestter Yeh (Arcadia, CA) won at #1 singles and #2 doubles, as did sophomore Bryan Mehall (Snowmass Village, CO) at #5 singles and #3 doubles, and partner Max Macey (Wilton, CT) who won at #2 singles. Freshmen Glenn Hull (Brookings, OR) and Rohan Shankar (San Jose, CA) completed the scoring for CMS, winning comfortably at the #4 and #6 singles spots.

CMS Stags Tennis moves to 9-0 on the season and will next face Swarthmore in the opening round of the Stag-Hen Invitational this Friday at 10:00 AM.
