On Court: Played varsity high school tennis for all four years, and led Rancho Bernardo HS to two consecutive CIF Division I Championships as a captain during junior and senior year...played #1 singles and #1 doubles in high school with two finals appearances in the CIF Individual Championship and two semifinal showings...won multiple All-League honors and All-CIF honors and competed in the All-American High School Invitational Tournament in Corona Del Mar, the first ever appearance for Rancho Bernardo...ranked in the top 15 in four age divisions in Southern California, reaching a sectional ranking high of #9 at age 16 after placing 9th at the 2009 So Cal Sectionals...reached a USTA National ranking of #61 as well as a national doubles ranking of #2 in 2007...junior tennis career is highlighted by five USTA national championships, with three titles coming in 2007 (2 USTA L-2 National doubles titles and winner of the California Bowl) and two in singles and doubles at the 2010 West Coast Championships...as a freshman had a terrific debut at USTA / ITA West Regionals, winning three matches before losing an epic 6-7, 7-6, 7-6 match to teammate and eventual champ Alex Lane in the quarters...defeated two seeded players - Larsen (Santa Cruz) and Weichert (Pomona-Pitzer) - before falling to Lane...paired up with fellow freshman Nik Marino to reach the semis of the doubles as an unseeded team, losing to eventual champs Ballou and Worley of Cal Lutheran...earned fall singles rankings of #42 nationally and #11 in the west, and #8 in doubles with Marino in the west...played five other events to round out his fall competition schedule...off-season minor knee surgery delayed his return to the starting lineup, but he returned to singles action at #6 on April 6th against Gustavus Adolphus...played in six dual matches at the #5 and #6 spots, losing only one set and going 6-0...finished the year with a 9-2 singles mark and a 3-1 doubles record...returns this season as one of three San Diego based juniors on the Stags Tennis roster...won two main draw singles matches at USTA / ITA West Regionals, including straight set win over ninth seed Chris Schommer of Whittier, before losing tough three set match to teammate and eventual tournament champion Skyler Butts in the round of 16...partnered sophomore Lestter Yeh in the doubles, winning two matches against Cummins / Parker of Redlands and Akin / Buford of Chapman, before exiting in the quarters to finalists Nichols and Treacy of Cal Lutheran.

Personal: Eldest of four Bernhardt children, all of whom play competitive junior tennis and part of the 2011 Southern California Tennis Family of the Year...has reached two finals with mother Carolyn at USTA National Mother-Son Hardcourts...first picked up a racket at age 3, began playing everyday at age 8…Bernhardt family also honored as San Diego Tennis Family of the Year in 2004…swam, played baseball and basketball while growing up…has volunteered as a tennis official in San Diego…which may have prepared him for his position as an unpopular referee of CMS intramural games.
