Stags Sweep Again for 4th Straight Win
CMS Stags Tennis made it back-to-back doubleheader sweeps by beating Occidental and Chapman by 9-0 scores on Saturday. Junior Drew Sabater (Claremont, CA [pictured]) won his second singles match in as many days and improved his record to 13-4 on the season. Sabater played #2 singles on Saturday, after playing at #5 on Friday
The Stags success against both Oxy and Chapman was kick-started by dominating doubles play. In both dual matches, CMS won by identical scores of 8-5, 8-1, and 8-1 at #1, #2 and #3 doubles respectively. Freshman Russell Brockett (Austin, TX), partnered fellow Texan Ben Wiener (Jr. - Houston, TX) at #3 doubles in both contests. Brockett and Wiener both accounted for two singles wins and two doubles wins on the day, and Brockett was a perfect 5-0 on the weekend, after clinching the victory against Concordia on Friday.
The Stags' win against Occidental is their 27th consecutive in conference play, dating back to 2005. They move to 6-0 in SCIAC and play next Saturday at Redlands for their third consecutive regular season conference championship. CMS is 18-7 overall on the season.
