Stags Open SCIAC Play With Win

The men's tennis team opened up SCIAC play on the road Saturday at Cal Lutheran with an 8-1 win. Later in the afternoon they traveled to Westmont where wind and rain cut short the match with CMS ahead 3-0.

The Stags were led by Kirthi Narasimhan (JR, Sugar Land, TX) who earned the first singles point for CMS at #4 6-0, 6-0. Co-Captain William Ellison (SR, Shaker Heights, OH) was also impressive at #2 singles (6-1, 6-1) and at #1 doubles with partner David Oehm (SR, Menlo Park) [8-2]. The Stags got out to an early 3-0 lead after the doubles, and lost only one set the rest of the way.

At Westmont, the Stags also swept the doubles, although this time in more dramatic fashion. With the other pairs winning 8-4, the #2 pair of Jack DePaolo (SR, Asheville, NC) and Evan Feldhausen (SR, Tucson, AZ) narrowly escaped with a 9-8 (2) win to complete the sweep. CMS was leading in four of the six matches on court when the weather forced an early ending to the match.

CMS will stay on the road this Friday, February 16th. They play at Caltech at 2:00 and at Azusa Pacific University at 2:30. They host Whittier College on Saturday, February 17 at 9:30 and then travel to Loyola Marymount University for a 3:00 match.
