CMS Men's Swim and Dive in 13th Place after First Day of NCAA Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Frank Applebaum finished 10th in the 200-yard individual medley, Lucas Lang finished 11th in the 500 free, and the 200-yard medley relay team came in 10th place as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team picked up 27 points to stand in 13th place after the first day of the NCAA Division III Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

Applebaum, Lang and the medley relay of Jeremy Tan, Evan Deedy, Applebaum and Theo Johnson all earned second-team All-America honors by qualifying for the evening session. 

Applebaum was second in the consolation final in the 200 IM, finishing in 1:48.35, taking 1.1 seconds off his prelim time to earn 10th place overall. Lang was third in the consolation heat of the 500, earning a time of 4:29.37. 

The 200-yard medley relay team took almost a second off of its prelim time to finish in 1:28.09. Tan led off with a 22.27 in the backstroke, and Applebaum had a 21.07 butterfly split that tied for the third-fastest in the event. 

Applebaum will compete tomorrow in the 100 fly, before going for his third straight national championship in the 200 fly on Friday. Lang will also compete again in the 1650, where he will try to earn first-team All-America honors for the third time. Tomorrow's action will also include Anderson Breazeale in the 200 free, and the 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley relays.
