Stags Swim and Dive Falls to Division I CBU in Annual Distance Meet

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Anderson Breazeale won the 200-yard freestyle and the 300-yard backstroke for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team, and swam the anchor on a winning freestyle relay, but Division I California Baptist was able to come away with a narrow 115-89 win in on Friday at the Lancer Aquatics Center.

The competition was an annual distance meet between the two schools, which features 300-yard events in the backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke and individual medley, as well as 500-yard relays.

Frank Applebaum added a win in the 300-yard butterfly, and Steven Tran was victorious in the 300-yard breaststroke. The Stags also capped off the meet with a win in the 500-yard freestyle relay, with Jeremy Tan, Dylan Krueger, Spencer Merodio and Breazeale winning a close race by 1.5 seconds.

Breazeale gave the Stags their first win of the day when he finished the 200-yard freestyle in 1:42.75, a margin of 2.5 seconds over Asa Frisbee of CBU. Krueger had a close battle in the 50 free, finishing in 21.18 seconds, which was third place, just one-tenth of a second out of first, and one-hundredth of a second out of second place.

Applebaum took first in the 300-yard butterfly in 2:53.84, and Breazeale earned his second win in the 300-yard backstroke in 3:01.50, a margin of just over four seconds. Tran's win in the 300-yard breaststroke was also by a healthy five-second margin, finishing in 3:17.82.

Tran added a runner-up finish in the 300-yard IM, while Lucas Lang was second in both the 500 free and the 1650 free. Grant Stucky was third in the 300 back, and Cole Sumino finished third in the 500 free.
