Cyrus Gaylord Earns SCIAC Diver of the Week Honors

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Cyrus Gaylord of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team earned the SCIAC Diver of the Week honor for events through Sunday, Jan. 7, the SCIAC office announced today.

Gaylord saw his first action of the season after studying abroad in the fall, and swept both the one-meter and three-meter dive events to help CMS to a dual win over Occidental. He almost reached 300 points in the one-meter, finishing with 298.50 to win by a margin of over 30 points. His win in the three-meter was much closer but he edged out teammate Luke Vlases 255.15 to 254.78 to earn 18 total points toward the CMS team total.

Gaylord earns the honor for the fourth time in his career. He also becomes the second Stag to win the award this season after Ethan Sattley captured it following opening day at the UC San Diego tri-meet. Bennet Matazzoni and Jack Griffith also earned it last year, as did Gaylord (twice).

CMS will be back in action when it travels to Cal Lutheran for a tri-meet with La Verne on Saturday.
