CMS Men's Swim and Dive Closes Out Regular Season with Senior Day at Host Invitational

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team closed out the 2022-23 regular season at the CMS Invitational, a non-team scoring event, which also served as the program's Senior Day.

CMS honored its three seniors before the meet, Alec Vercruysse, Thayer Breazeale and Nathan Luis, along with the 10 Athenas who are members of the Class of 2023.

The meet itself saw the Stags pick up several individual wins, including a sweep of the diving events from Cyrus Gaylord, who had a 588.45 in the three-meter and a 557.80 in the one-meter.

Alex Johnson won the first individual race for the Stags with a 4:42.79 in the 500-yard freestyle. Eric Workman won a very close battle with teammate Dylan Krueger in the 50 free, with Workman finishing in 21.34 and Krueger in 21.36.

Steven Tran won another close Stag vs. Stag race in the 200 fly, finishing in 1:55.54 to edge Tyler Headley by just .13. Henrik Barck was the lone competitor in the 400 IM and finished in 4:03.41, while Anderson Breazeale swam a 1:50.36 to win the 200 back and Jeremy Tan had a first-palce finish in the 100 back in 53.95.

CMS will be back in action for the SCIAC Championships on Feb. 15-18, as the Stags will try to defend their back-to-back titles from 2020 and 2022 (with a one-year interruption for the pandemic).
