Samay Rahim Captures SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week Accolades

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Claremont-Mudd-Scripps senior center back Samay Rahim earned the SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week Award for games through Sunday, Sept. 26, the league office announced today.

Rahim played every minute while helping CMS stretch its winning streak to six games, including 4-0 in SCIAC contests. He quarterbacked the CMS defense to a 1-0 shutout win over Chapman on Wednesday from his center back position and then came through with an offensive contribution in a 3-1 win over Occidental on Saturday.

After the Tigers scored early, the Stags had to play from behind for the first time all year (their only loss was on an overtime golden goal), and Rahim helped swing the momentum when he came forward on a corner kick, and blasted in a shot from the top of the 18-yard box. CMS maintained that momentum after halftime, pulling ahead on a Walsh Kern goal and going on to a 3-1 win.

CMS, which is ranked No. 20 in the country, improved its overall record to 6-1-1, with the overtime loss coming to Westmont of the NAIA, which does not factor into its postseason hopes.

The Stags will be back in action this week for two more home games, taking on Whittier on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. and then hosting Caltech on Saturday at 7 p.m.
