Stags End Season on High Note, Shutout Leopards

LA VERNE, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team ended the 2017 season with a 3-0 victory against the La Verne Leopards on Saturday afternoon. Aidan Johnson (CMC) opened the scoring with a goal in the fifth minute and Daniel Rohde (HMC) collected a brace with a goal in each half.

In goal, Connor Gaskin (CMC) made six saves in the Stags' third shutout of the season.

The Stags wasted no time getting on the board on Saturday. In the fifth minute, the Stags earned the first corner kick of the match and Matthew Swift (CMC) sent a ball into the box where it found Aidan Johnson. The shot from Johnson found the back of the net and put the Stags up early.

CMS continued to pressure La Verne, with shots from Swift and Nate Huntington (CMC) in the next six minutes. That persistent pressure would result in a second goal in the 13th minute. Freshmen William Birchard (CMC) and Daniel Rohde teamed up for the goal, with Rohde sneaking one past the keeper for the 2-0 lead.

That lead would hold firm well into the second-half until Rohde connected on an unassisted tally in the 87th minute to put the cherry on top of a 3-0 victory in the final game of the season for the Stags.
