Hallberg scores two, one in last second against La Verne

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team shuts out La Verne 4-0 on Monday night for the last home game of the regular season. The Stags score four for an easy win on a soggy Prtizlaff.

CMS retains their first place in SCIAC with tonight's win over La Verne.  The Stags have clinched a spot in the conference tournament next week and are hoping to hold onto the #1 spot with one remaining regular season game.  Tonight's game was the last regular season home game of their careers for the three seniors on the team: Daniel Price, Ethan Hallberg, and Corey Argumosa.  All starters, these seniors have each played a huge role in the Stags' success this year.

Junior Sam Meyers scored his first goal of the season on a ball passed across the field from freshman Mehron Abdi to freshman Michael Crowley right to Meyers' feet.

Hallberg scored for the Stags after a free kick close to midfield.  The ball ricocheted off the feet of a Leopard's defender and Hallberg fired it past the keeper to put the Stags up 2-0.

The scoring continued after Hogan Marhoefer scored for CMS with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game to advance the score to 3-0.

Hallberg almost scored again on an open net after getting past keeper but the shot was saved by a La Verne defender.

In the last second of the game the speedy Hallberg scored for the second time in the night after dribbling past the keeper on a ball from Alex Censullo.  It was an incredible goal for Hallberg to end his regular season career at home.

The Stags play their final conference game at Whittier against the Poets on Saturday (11/2) at 7pm.
