ONEONTA, N.Y. – After a 3-1 win to start the season on
Aug. 31, the No. 9 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team played
in the Mayor's Cup Tournament hosted by SUNY Oneonta on Sept. 6-7
and lost both of its matches. In the tournament's opening game on
Friday, Franklin & Marshall defeated CMS (1-2) 4-0. Then
against defending NCAA Division III national champion and
top-ranked Messiah on Saturday, the Stags lost 3-0.
Franklin & Marshall 4, CMS 0
A slow start put the Stags at an early disadvantage as
Franklin & Marshall jumped out to a 3-0 first half lead with
two of the goals coming in the match's first 12 minutes. Franklin
& Marshall outshot CMS 10-7 for the match, but CMS did have a
5-4 advantage in the second half. CMS junior GK Daniel
Roberts had four saves in the match. Ben Beaver scored
three of the four goals for Franklin & Marshall.

of the match that Messiah got on the scoreboard as Danny Brandt
gave the team a 1-0 lead. Then in the 67th minute,
Messiah extended its lead to 2-0 on a goal by Bryant
Myer. CMS had a difficult time generating scoring
opportunities as the team managed three shots including one shot on
goal. Sophomore GK Joseph
