Ma Earns SCIAC Athlete of the Year Honor, Four Stags Earn All-SCIAC

CLAREMONT, Calif. - For the second time in his career, Yuefeng (Michael) Ma of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps earned the SCIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Year honor in a vote of the league's coaches, the conference office announced today.

Ma was joined on the All-SCIAC first team by Adrian Chiu, while Joshua Kwon and Jamison Tan earned spots on the second team.

In addition to his Athlete of the Year honor, Ma also captured the Jesse Clark Sportsmanship Award, which is voted on by SCIAC student-athletes. He was the SCIAC individual medalist for the second time in his career, winning the title last week at Los Serranos Country Club by one stroke at -6.

Chiu also earned a top-five finish at the SCIAC Championships, finishing at even par after closing with a 71 (-1) on his final round, which included a birdie on 18 to finish -2 on the back nine.

Kwon was the individual medalist at the first SCIAC regular season championship by shooting a 65 on his second round with seven birdies, the last coming on 18 to win the individual title by one stroke at -10, while Chiu finished third. Tan, meanwhile, finished 12th at the SCIAC Championship, closing out with back to back 73s.

CMS will continue its season at the NCAA Division III Championships, after receiving an at-large bid on Monday. The Stags will make their 11th straight appearance at nationals, dating back to 2012, and are coming off two straight third-place finishes in 2021 and 2022.
