GolfStat Scoring

BOULDER CREEK, Nev. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team held off a challenge from Southeastern University to capture second place at the Las Vegas Shootout, which was held at the Boulder Creek Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday.

Ottawa (Ariz.) finished first with a -33 score, while CMS was second at -16 and Southeastern was third at -12. Those were the only three teams to finish in the red out of the 16 in the field, as Oklahoma City was fourth at +2.

The Stags were nine shots behind Ottawa and seven ahead of Southeastern at the start of the day, but Ottawa got off to a fast start to pull way ahead, and Southeastern was able to catch CMS from behind and make it a tight battle for second place.

Vikram Chatterjee finished the day at -2 to move into a tie for sixth, along with Yuefeng (Michael) Ma at -5 for the tournament. Chatterjee shot in the red for all three rounds, finishing with a 70-71-70-211, and had an eagle and six birdies on his final round, and finished his final five holes in -2 to help CMS hold off the challenge from Southeastern.

Kevin Jiang also came in under par on Tuesday's round, earning a 71 to move up seven spots in 21st place. Aryan Kaila and Joshua Kwon tied for 14th at even par, while Will Parker was 18th at +1, leaving all six Stags competing in the top 21 out of 87 golfers. Kaila also shot -2 in his final five holes, with a birdie on his 18th, while Jiang had two straight birdies on his back nine before closing with six pars.

CMS will be back in action in March when it travels to Georgia to compete in the Jekyll Island Invitational.
