CMS Men's Golf Holds Four-Shot Lead after First Day of SCIAC No. 1

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Vikram Chatterjee shot a four-under 68 to place first on the individual leaderboard as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team holds a four-shot lead after the first of two rounds at SCIAC No. 1 a thte El Dorado Golf Course on Saturday.

The Stags shot a 289 (+1) as a team, giving the Stags a four-shot lead over Pomona-Pitzer in second. California Lutheran is third at +10, La Verne is fourth at +12, and Redlands is fifth at +15. 

CMS has four players in the top 10 overall, with Kevin Jiang in a tie for sixth at +1, and Yuefeng (Michael) Ma and Aryan Kaila in a tie for eighth at +2. 

Chatterjee started his spring season out with a flourish, birdieing each of his first three holes. He took the turn at -2, and played steady on the back nine with seven straight pars, before closing out with birdies on No. 17 and No. 18 to take the lead into Sunday's play. 

Jiang had 13 pars and three birdies on his steady round on Saturday, while Will Parker had an eagle on the par-5 fourth as part of his 75. 

The second round will get underway tomorrow morning as CMS will try to continue its success in SCIAC events after sweeping their way to the league title last year.
