Wu, Kong Earn Honorable Mention All-America Honors from Golf Coaches Association of America

CLAREMONT, Calif. - First-year Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golfer Edward Wu and junior Ken Kong each earned PING Honorable Mention Division III All-America honors from the Golf Coaches Association of America, the organization announced today.

Wu finished in first place out of a 48-player field at the first SCIAC regular season championship, which was held on Feb. 29 and March 1 in Beaumont, earning him SCIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Week accolades.  He birdied seven of his first 13 holes at SCIAC #1, on his way to an opening-round 66 (-6) to help CMS to the individual title. In the fall, he opened his collegiate career with a par and a -1 over 36 holes at the Bulldog Invitational, followed by a -2 in the final round to end up at three under.

Kong captures his second All-America award, after also earning a third-team GCAA All-America selection last year. Last spring, he captured back-to-back individual medalist honors, winning The West Cup and the second SCIAC regular season tournament. This year, he finished third at the opening SCIAC regular season tournament, including a 70 on his opening round for a two-under par.

Kong and Wu helped CMS emerge as the prohibitive favorites for the SCIAC title before spring sports were suspended. The Stags were ranked No. 7 in the nation in the final poll released by the GCAA after the abrupt conclusion of the spring season.
