Shaw leads Stags to second place in CA State Intercollegiate

HEMET, Calif. – Junior Jonathan Shaw (CMC) shot two rounds at 70 despite rainy weather to help the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team to a second place finish in the CA State Intercollegiate in at the Diamond Valley Golf Club. Shaw was the individual winner at 4-under over the two day tournament.

The Stags were just three shots off the leader, Arizona Christian University, after the first day as they posted a 290. All five CMS players stayed within single digits over par, a feat that only ACU and CMS could tout. After the first round, Shaw sat tied for third and followed closely by sophomore Alex Wrenn (CMC) who shot even par. Junior Joe LaHorgue (CMC) was just 1-over and freshman Austin Long (CMC) had a 75 in the first round. Up against stiff competition, Long's 3-over score was good for a tie of 20th place. Freshman Harry Brenner (CMC) rounded out the Stag line up with an 81 on day one.

On the rainy second day of the tournament, Wrenn was 3-over at 75 and tied for 12th overall. The Stags held onto their second place position as Arizona Christian widened the gap for its eventual team victory at 3-under (573). CMS bested all five other SCIAC programs that participated in the tournament.

The Stags continue in their fall season with a tournament at the Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz. Sept. 26-27.
