Strong Final Round Gives Shigezawa Individual SCIAC Championship, Stags Finish In Second

BEAUMONT, Calif. – Junior Bradley Shigezawa shot a final round score of 68 to come from behind and finish in first while leading the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team to a second place finish at the SCIAC Men's Golf Championships at Oak Valley Golf Course April 27-29. For his efforts at the SCIAC Championships, Shigezawa has been selected as the SCIAC Male Athlete of the Week for the week of April 22-28, the conference announced Tuesday.

The Stags combined to shoot a three-round score of 881 at 17-over par on the par 72 course, 14 shots behind La Verne who won the SCIAC Championships for the seventh year in a row. CMS trailed La Verne by two shots after the first day, but the second and third rounds saw La Verne distance itself from the pack. The Stags finished 10 strokes ahead of third place Redlands.

Shigezawa had rounds of 70, 74 and 68 with his final round of 68 being the low round in the field during the day. The junior finished three strokes ahead of Derek Zachman and Keven Holiday of La Verne who were at 1-under. Freshman Kethan Reddy had a strong top-10 performance as he finished in eighth with a 4-over score of 220. After the first day, Reddy stood just two shots off the lead with a first round score of 69.

Sophomore Ben Ho (227) tied for 13th while junior Jordan Stein (232), junior Patrick Fujieki (233) and junior Aron Larson (242) rounded out the field for CMS.

With the second place finish at the SCIAC Championships, the team now awaits a possible invitation to the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship which is May 14-17 at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, Fla.
