LOMPOC, Calif. – Down by three strokes after the first round, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team came from behind to win the two-round SCIAC #2 Golf Tournament by one shot over La Verne over the weekend at La Purisima Golf Course. In addition, junior Bradley Shigezawa finished in first place by one shot over Derek Zachman of La Verne for the individual win.

CMS finished with a two-round score of 619 at plus-43 while La Verne shot a 620 at plus-44. La Verne led CMS by three strokes at the end of the first day by shooting a 308. Then in the final round, CMS shot a 308 while La Verne came in at 312.

The second day saw Shigezawa narrowly maintain his lead as he shot a plus-4, 76 to finish at 5-over par for the weekend. Shigezawa has either won or finished tied for first place this spring in three of five tournaments played and he has won both SCIAC tournaments outright.

All told, CMS had four golfers finish in the top-11. Junior Patrick Fujieki finished five shots behind Shigezawa at plus-10 with a score of 154 and tied for fourth place. Fujieki's second round score of 73 tied for the lowest round of the weekend. Sophomore Ben Ho tied for seventh at plus-13 while freshman Kethan Reddy finished two shots back of Ho and in a tie for 11th at plus-15.

Freshman Ahmed El Tamami (168, plus-24) and freshman Justin Beck (173, plus-29) rounded out the field for CMS.

The Stags now have nearly three weeks off from competition to fine-tune their game before the SCIAC Championships which run from April 27-29 at Oak Valley Golf Course.
