CMS Starts Hot, Finishes In 10th At Collegiate Invite; Shigezawa Ties For First

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – Junior Bradley Shigezawa tied for first and shot a 1-over par at the 30-team, three-day Collegiate Invitational at the par-72 Pine Lakes Golf Course over the weekend as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team finished in 10th place overall.

The Stags shot a combined three-day score of 917 which was 53 over par, 35 shots behind Illinois Wesleyan who won the tournament and 10 shots behind seventh place University of La Verne, the only other SCIAC team in the field. CMS ended the first round tied for fifth place with a score of 300, nine shots behind Oglethorpe who led after the first 18 holes. CMS then shot a 308 in the second round and a 309 in the third round.

Shigezawa trailed Mike Wesko of Methodist after the first round by a stroke, despite shooting a 1-under, 71. On the second day, Shigezawa captured the lead by shooting an even par, 72 and then shot a 74 on the final day. Illinois Wesleyan's Stefan Johnson came from three shots down in the final round to tie Shigezawa for first place.

Sophomore Ben Ho had the second-best score for CMS at the tournament with a three day score of 229 at plus-13 which placed him in a tie for 40th. Ho had his best round on the first day with a 2-over, 74. Junior Jordan Stein (231) finished tied for 51st at 13-over, junior Patrick Fujieki (240) ended at plus-24, while junior Aron Larson (248) rounded out the CMS field at plus-32.
