Stags Travel to Chapman for NCAA First Round Matchup

CMS will be making their second consecutive appearance and tenth appearance overall in the Division III NCAA Tournament and will face Chapman (23-2) on Thursday, March 4.

Chapman is currently ranked #12 according to the d3hoops.com poll. They received an at-large bid into the tournament, their first appearance since the '83-'84 season. The Panthers are currently on an impressive 13-game winning streak and have only two losses on the season.

Despite the Panther's stellar record, the Stags have shown that they can compete against the Panthers, as they won a key road game against Chapman in December. The Stags finished the season by capturing their second consecutive SCIAC Tournament Championship. They defeated fourth-seed Occidental 65-62 and defeated Pomona-Pitzer 57-53.

Chris Blees (JR, Carmichael), who was recently awarded SCIAC Player of the Year, is third in the SCIAC in scoring with 17.2 PPG and was uncharacteristically silent on offense in the Chapman win, scoring only six points. Conner Faught (SR, Agoura Hills) was clutch against Chapman, scoring 15 points which included a perfect 2-2 from the three-point arc and a perfect 2-2 from the charity stripe. Shane Davis (JR, Vashon, WA) also contributed 13 points and two steals.

The winner of tonight's game will travel to Spokane, Washington to play Whitworth University on Saturday, March 6 at 7:30.
