Stags Defeat Leopards

The men's basketball team got back on the winning track with a 59-50 home win over the University of La Verne on Saturday. The team improved to 11-8 overall and 3-5 in SCIAC while La Verne dropped to 3-16 and 2-6.

CMS jumped out to an early 15-6 lead in the game and then La Verne responded with a 14-4 run giving them their first lead. The teams went back and forth for the rest of the first half and were tied at halftime 25-25. The Leos scored the opening basket of the second half. The Stags answered with a 15-2 run that gave them a commanding lead and never led by less than seven over the last 10 minutes.

Mani Maceira (JR, Cotati) led the team with 25 points. Austin Soldner (SO, Southlake, TX) and Tejas Gala (SO, Arcadia) each had six rebounds. Soldner had a team-high four assists and Drew Rivera (FR, Torrance) had four steals. Billy Nicolini led La Verne with 13 points.

CMS hosts Occidental College on Wednesday, February 7. The game is at 7:30 in Ducey Gymnasium.
