Dylan Porter Captures SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week Honors for CMS Football

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior linebacker Dylan Porter was named the SCIAC Football Defensive Player of the Week for games through Saturday, Oct. 23, the league office announced today.

Porter had a huge day from hs middle linebacker spot to help CMS to its first shutout since 2017 in a dominant 27-0 win over Cal Lutheran on Saturday. Porter had 14 tackles, nine of which were solo, and 2.5 for losses, as CMS held Cal Lutheran to only 143 yards of total offense and 2.5 yards per play.

The 14 tackles were a career-high for Porter, breaking his old high-water mark of 10. The shutout was the first time that the Stags held an opponent scoreless since a 37-0 win over Occidental in 2017. CMS nearly had another shutout on opening day this season, but settled for a 25-3 win over Pomona-Pitzer when the Sagehens scored their only points on a field goal following a Stag turnover deep in its own territory (a scoring drive that consisted of negative yardage).

Porter joins Kirby Baynes (Sept. 27) as SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week Award winners, and joins Justin Edwards (Offensive Player of the Week, Sept. 27) and Jacob Fenton (Offensive Player of the Week, Oct. 18) on the league's honor roll this season.

CMS will be back in action at home this weekend when it entertains La Verne at 1 p.m., as it tries to remain in contention for a SCIAC Championship.
