Five Stag Seniors Named To All-SCIAC Football Teams

Claremont, CA.- The SCIAC Conference released their All-SCIAC selections in Football for the 2011 season and five Stags received 1st or 2nd Team honors. All five selected were senior with Elijah Chiang, Nate Jiwanlal, Sam Jolly, Eddie Mills,  and Ben Salzman receiving the awards.

Chiang, a defensive back, battled back from three injury shortened seasons to become a potent defensive force in the Stag secondary, earning 2nd Team defense honors. Over the season Chiang accumulated 44 tackles, one interception, seven pass break ups, and one fumble recovery.

Jiwanlal, who spent most of his career as a defensive back, switched over to the offense and special teams for his senior season. In this position, Jiwanlal was named to the 2nd Team defense as a special teams specialist. His statistics for the 2011 season include nine rushes for 35 yards, one reception for 18 yards, as well as being instrumental to the special teams providing crucial blocks for a unit that averaged 17.7 yards per kickoff return, and 7.3 yards on punt returns.

Jolly, a four year presence on the Stag offensive line received 1st Team offense honors. Providing crucial run blocks, and pass protection, Jolly was an invaluable asset to the Stag offensive line that was called upon play after play in the Triple option offense employed by the team this season.

Mills, a four year starter on the defensive line, concludes his career by receiving 2nd Team defense honors. He accumulated 25 tackles, 5.5 sacks, three pass deflections, and one forced fumble on the year. Mills provided leadership on the field as an athlete who frequently got through the line and pressured the opposing quarterback, throwing off the rhythm of his opponents offense.

Salzman, who continually developed as a player over his career, stepped up over the past two seasons to become a statistical leader for the Stags from the linebacker position. He earned 1st Team defense honors thanks to 70 tackles, 2.5 sacks, one interception, three pass break ups, and one forced fumble.
