CMS Baseball Drops High-Scoring Doubleheader to Redlands

REDLANDS, Calif. - William DeForest and Julian Sanders hit home runs to stake CMS baseball to an early 6-0 lead on the road but Redlands was able to come back for an 11-6 win in the nightcap to complete the doubleheader sweep over the Stags on Saturday. 

With the losses, the Stags fall to 13-12 on the year and 2-7 in the SCIAC, while the Bulldogs improve to 14-10 on the season and 5-7 in the SCIAC. 

In the nightcap, Nick Wilson was 3-for-4, Brandon Rho fnished 2-for-5 with one run scored and Carson Bridges had one hit to go along with one run scored in the second game. Sanders singled to left field in the first, bringing home Marco Castillo after he was hit by a pitch, enabling the Stags to take a 1-0 lead. 

DeForest homered to left field in the second on a three-run shot and Sanders homered on a two-run shot in the third as CMS took a 6-0 advantage. However, Redlands quickly responded and scored five runs in the fifth, two in the sixth, one in the seventh and two more in the eighth to complete the comeback.

The opener saw Redlands win 16-6. Evan Kelly finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored, Castillo was also 3-for-4, while Tyler Shaw, Rho and Sanders added one hit apiece.

CMS was able to hang tough early as Castillo singled to right field, bringing Kelly home and Rho then singled to shortstop, sending Shaw home to take a 6-5 lead in the top fourth. Redlands was able to hold CMS scoreless the rest of the way as the Bulldogs scored five times in the eighth to break it open. 

The Stags will return to action on Friday as they travel to take on Occidental at 3:00 p.m., before hosting the Tigers in a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. to cap its three-game series.
