Smith named to All-SCIAC Second Team

PASADENA, Calif. – Sophomore Trey Smith (CMC) earned Second Team baseball all-conference honors from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), as announced on May 11. The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team finished in eighth place with a 9-19 record in conference, significantly better than the 5-23 showing in 2015.

Smith ended up leading the Stags with a .347 batting average and his .634 slugging percentage was the seventh best in the SCIAC. With three triples and five homeruns, he ranked second and fifth in those categories as well. Smith hit two of the homeruns in the same day against Pomona-Pitzer on Feb. 20. In the first inning of each game, Smith hit towering grand slams and amassed eight RBI with just two swings of the bat. Another breakout day for Smith was in the 13-1 win over Whittier on Mar. 22 when he was a perfect 5-for-5 and hit for the cycle.

Playing left and center field during the season, Smith collected five outfield assists in conference play.

Additionally, senior shortstop Jack Witte (CMC) was named to the SCIAC's baseball Sportsmanship Team.
