Coach Town steps down as head coach of CMS Baseball

After 27 years in the dugout at the helm of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team, head coach Randy Town has stepped down from the position to move into an administrative role within the athletics department, Director of Athletics Mike Sutton announced on Aug. 20.

Witte named All-West Region Second Team Shortstop

Senior Scott Witte added another post-season accolade to his resume when he was named as American Baseball Coaches Association's All-West Region's Second Team shortstop. Witte was an All-West Region Third Team shortstop last year.

Stags end season with a win, spoil Oxy’s SCIAC Tournament hopes

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags end the 2014 season with a 3-1 win over Occidental on Tuesday afternoon at Arce Field. With the win, CMS spoiled Oxy’s post season hopes at being the fourth place seed in the upcoming SCIAC Tournament. The Stags pitching staff held the Tigers to seven scattered hits while the offense strung singles and doubles together in an inning to earn the win.

Despite being out of contention for the post-season, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team won a hard-fought game against Whittier (7-4) on Sunday afternoon in the third game of Round Robin play. The Stags (14-24, 10-17) won with outstanding play on both sides of the ball.

Stags fall to powerful Kingsmen

April 23, 2014

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team lost to SCIAC’s top seed Cal Lutheran 15-3 on Wednesday afternoon in the first game of Round Robin play. The Kingsmen held the Stags to just five hits while they amassed 20 on the day for the seven inning victory. The highlight of the CMS offense was an RBI triple by senior Yoni Hendel to score the Stags’ first run.

To close out its series with Caltech and earn a three-game sweep, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team combined for 20 runs and 25 hits over the final two games on April 19 at Arce Field.

CMS plays three close games and takes one from No. 3 Cal Lu

The Stags went toe to toe with the No. 3 ranked Cal Lutheran Regals in the weekend series. CMS was either ahead of or tied with the Kingsmen in each of the three games but ultimately lost 9-7 and 5-4 before winning the second game of the Saturday doubleheader 6-2. Sophomore Samuel Woodman earned the win, his third on the season, by holding Cal Lu scoreless through five innings.

In a two game exhibition with Pacific Lutheran, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team lost both (8-1 and 14-3) on Friday and Saturday at Arce Field. Freshman Evan Opperman and Andrew Burgard had the only RBI for the Stags during the games.

Offense comes up big on spring break trip to Tucson

Over its spring break trip to Arizona, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team went 2-1 and scored 37 runs over three games as the team registered wins over Carleton (9-8) and Middlebury (21-5) at the Tucson Tournament March 21 and 22. CMS improved to 8-16 on the season.

CLAREMONT, Calif. – In the SCIAC series against La Verne, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team went 1-2 over the weekend. The Stags lost the Friday game 2-1, won the first of the double header on Saturday 9-7 and then lost the final game 9-6. Sophomore Andrew Burgard was 2-4 at the plate with three RBI in the Stags’ win.
