Amanda Mell - Women's Track & Field

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior Amanda Mell had a double-dose of good days over the weekend, winning the triple jump on Saturday to help CMS sweep its first SCIAC Multi-Dual on Saturday, and then earning an NCAA Division III Indoor Championships invitation on Sunday.

Mell won the triple jump on Saturday with a distance of 11.33 meters (37'2.25") to lead a group of seven competitors, finishing eight inches ahead of teammate Carolyn Weisman. She was also third in the long jump (17'7.5") and was part of the winning 4x100 relay, running the third leg to help the Athenas to a 48.44 time, .4 seconds ahead of Whittier. Her efforts helped CMS to a 108-55 win over Whittier and a 126-37 win over Occidental as the Athenas began defense of their 2019 SCIAC title with a strong performance.

On Sunday, Mell found out that her personal best in the triple jump, set on Feb. 29 at the Seattle Pacific Final Qualifier, held up as one of the top 20 marks in the country in Division III to give her an invitation to the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships this weekend in Winston Salem, N.C. Mell recorded a jump of 11.68 meters (38'4") in Seattle on her very last jump at the last indoor qualifier, which was the same scenario that earned her an NCAA Outdoor Track and Field invite last spring at the Redlands Final Qualifier.

Mell will head to Winston Salem while the rest of the CMS track and field team competes at the Occidental Sprint and Distance Carnival on Saturday. She will next be reunited with her team on Friday, March 20 at the Redlands Invitational.
