CLAREMONT, Calif. – Senior Matthew Williams (CMC) took first place in all seven events that he competed in over the weekend. Against Cal Baptist, he was on the winning 500-yard medley relay team (4:38.36) in the first event of the day. Then, he tacked on two more top-finishes in the meet taking the 50-yard freestyle (21.47) and the 300-yard backstroke (3:03.69).

On Saturday in a dual meet vs. Chapman, Williams won four events. As the favorite in the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard butterfly, Williams delivered in both events, swimming 51.26 in the backstroke and 51.83 for the fly. He was also on two winning relay teams as the first leg of the 200-yard medley relay and then swimming the fastest split (21.56) for the Stags' "A" team in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:28.11).

The senior is currently the defending NCAA national champion in the 100-yard backstroke and was named 2016 SCIAC Men’s Athlete of the Year last season.
