Thomas D'Anieri and Roselyn Cantu - Cross Country

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Following breakout performances at the SCIAC Cross Country Championship in Prado Park, both freshman Thomas D’Anieri (CMC) and junior Roselyn Cantu (CMC) are named CMS Athlete of the Week. Both runners exceeded expectations to help their respective programs secure first place at the conference championship.

Hampered by injury for majority of the season, D’Anieri pushed himself to get top placing during Saturday’s race when he noticed several of his teammates losing their place. In order to make up for the potentially marked points, D’Anieri grinded through the muddy course and took fifth overall at 26:25.25. Thanks to his performance, CMS managed to beat Pomona-Pitzer by four points and Whittier by five.

Following a rough 26th place finish at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, Roselyn Cantu bounced back with a strong finish, taking 15th overall. Cantu finished at 24:33.81, beating her prior time at the same course (24:46.4) by 13 seconds. Her breakout performance helped CMS see six runners in the top 15, locking them up for first place.
