Claremont-Mudd-Scripps is an NCAA Division III athletic program comprised of student-athletes from three of the Claremont Colleges: Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd and Scripps Colleges. CMS sponsors 21 men's (Stags) and women's (Athenas) sports. Over the course of the program’s history, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletics teams have won over 300 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) championships and 32 SCIAC All-Sports trophies, an award given each year to the conference’s top all-around athletic department. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps is the only program in the SCIAC which has won at least two conference titles in each of the 21 sports.
On the national level, CMS Athletics had its best overall year ever in 2017-18 and finished third in the Directors' Cup Standings which ranks 400-plus NCAA Division III schools based on their athletic department’s success in NCAA postseason competition. CMS has 15 top-30 finishes in the Director’s Cup Standings since the competition began in 1995. In addition to their strong showings in the SCIAC the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps athletic program has also performed well in post-season competition. CMS has won seven team national titles, including three in 2017-18 as the women's volleyball, women's golf and women's tennis teams all earned national championships. In 2016, the men's golf team won the national championship and in 2015, the men's tennis team won its second national championship after a tie for the title in 1981. Additionally, Claremont-Mudd won the NAIA swimming crown in 1967.
The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges place the highest priority on the overall quality of the educational experience and on the successful completion of students' academic programs. Our focus is to integrate objectives and programs in athletics with academic and developmental objectives by maintaining an environment in which student-athletes' activities are conducted as an integral part of the student-athletes' educational experience.
