Practice started and schedules posted for winter sports

CLAREMONT, Calif. – With the start of basketball practice today, all the winter sports are underway.  The competition schedules for men’s and women’s swimming and diving and men’s and women’s basketball have been posted on the CMS Athletics website. The composite schedule for all CMS Athletics events can be found here and a brief preview and direct link to the schedule page for each sport can be found below. (Please note that schedules are subject to change.)

Men’s Basketball – Schedule

Early in the Stag basketball season, CMS plays in the Markie Cosca Memorial Tournament at the Cal Maritime Academy and then travels to New York to face John Jay and Hunter Colleges on Manhattan Island. The Stags return home for the David Wells Classic when they play Carleton College from Minn. Starting on Jan. 2, the rest of the Stags’ season is comprised of SCIAC play.

The alumni game will be played Saturday, Oct. 17.

Women’s Basketball - Schedule

CMS opens their season against Transylvania on Nov. 15 before traveling to Hunter College in New York, NY for a mini tournament Nov. 20-21. During the Wells Classic and into December, the Athena basketball team hosts three foes out of the strong Northwest Conference in Willamette, Puget Sound and George Fox. Following a visit from Smith at the end of Dec., the Athenas dive into SCIAC contests through the end of Feb.

The alumni game will be played Saturday, Nov. 14.

Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving - Schedule (M), Schedule (W)

The Stags and Athenas open up the 2015-16 season against UC San Diego and then face their first conference opponents – Cal Lutheran and Chapman – the first week of November. December holds a meet with Redlands and then the annual Winter Invite at South Gate. The specialty meets of Cal Baptist Distance and UCLA Diving Invite are on Jan. 8 and 15. CMS competes against the majority of SCAIC programs in January and then the SCAIC Championships are held Feb. 18-21.

The Alumni meet will be held Saturday, Nov. 14 at 11 a.m.
