CMS set to co-host USTA/ITA West Regionals Oct.2-4

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Biszantz Family Tennis Center and the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's and men’s tennis teams, along with Pomona-Pitzer Athletics, play host to the 2015 USTA/ITA Division III West Regionals from Friday, Oct. 2 through Sunday, Oct. 4.

This tournament is open to all Division III member institutions in the western region and the singles and doubles champion(s) from this regional event will earn an automatic berth to the 2015 USTA/ITA National Small College Championships, October 15-18, in Sumter, S.C.

Draws are expected to be released on Sept. 30 in the evening and can be found here.

In 2014, Stags’ junior Glenn Hull (CMC) won the West Regionals in singles while the Athenas swept singles and doubles at Regionals. Senior Caroline Ward (CMC) won the regional title in singles while Ward and partner, junior Katie Kuosman (CMC) took the regional doubles championship. The Athena team then advanced on to the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships and took home the national title as well.

On the men’s side in singles, senior captain Skyler Butts (CMC) is the top seed in the tournament while Hull is seeded third, senior Lestter Yeh (CMC) is sixth, senior Bryan Mehall (HMC) is seventh, junior Alex Brenner (CMC) is eighth and freshman Julian Gordy (CMC) is seeded ninth along with several other participants.

In doubles, Butts and Hull are the top-seeded team while Mehall and Yeh are seeded fifth.

For the Athenas, Ward is the top-seeded athlete in women’s open singles while Kuosman is third, sophomore Lindsay Brown (CMC) is ninth as is sophomore Kyla Scott (HMC) and Bria Smith (CMC).

Kuosman and Ward are the top seeded doubles team while Scott and Brown are seeded seventh.
