Loncki Wins Individual Honors, Athenas Take Second-Straight SCIAC Title

The No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team had all but clinched their second-straight SCIAC Championship before Tuesday’s final round even started, holding an 84 stroke lead over second-place Pomona-Pitzer in the chase for the Conference Title. CMS slammed the door on the conference with a team score of 19-over, 307 on Tuesday at Los Serranos Country Club to clinch their second-straight and fifth overall SCIAC Title in program history. Margaret Loncki (CMC) led the Athenas by winning medalist honors in the Tournament. With a three-day total of 220 (+4), Loncki claimed the honors by three strokes over Redlands' Caroline Ordian (223, +7).

Stags Claim Third-Straight SCIAC Championship

The No. 9 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team closed out their third-straight SCIAC Championship on Tuesday with a round of one-under, 287 at Los Serranos Country Club. CMS finished 20 strokes ahead of Cal Lutheran on the week and a total of 33 strokes in front of the La Verne Leopards in the race for the SCIAC Championship. Johnny Brandt (CMC) carded an even-par, 72 on the final day of the Tournament to finish at five-under for the week. Brandt was one shot back of the individual medalist, Jake Hollander (210, -6) from Redlands, who also shot even on Tuesday.

The Athenas won their fourth-straight SCIAC Championship on Saturday night.
Athenas Run Away with SCIAC Track and Field Championship Title

Complete domination. That is what describes the performance of the No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s track and field team at the 2018 SCIAC Track and Field Championships. The Athenas captured 208 points, 46 more than the second-place team, and a total of 10 first-place finishes en route to their fourth-straight SCIAC Track and Field Championship over the weekend. They and were led by Tyra Abraham (SC) who secured three first-place finishes. The senior won both the 100 meter dash (11.59), and the 200 meter dash (24.32), setting a new CMS record in both. She also ran the anchor leg in the 4x100 meter relay team that finished their race at the top of the podium for the second year in a row.

Sophomore Nikolai Parodi (CMC) became the first player in Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Tennis history to win back-to-back Ojai Division III singles and doubles titles on Sunday. Parodi defeated Pomona-Pitzer's Jed Kronenberg 6-2, 6-0 in the singles championship match, and then later paired with junior Julian Gordy (CMC) to capture the doubles crown. Parodi and Gordy defeated Caltech's Varun Shanker and James Wei 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-3. Parodi and Gordy extend the streak of Stags singles and doubles titles at Ojai to five.

Betsy Hipple and Steve Graves, two long-time members of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletics program, are now honorary members of the Claremont McKenna College Alumni Association (CMCAA).

Top-Seeded Athenas Thrash Panthers, Advance to SCIAC Championship

The top-seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s lacrosse team flexed their muscle in the SCIAC Semifinals against Chapman, earning a 17-6 victory on Saturday afternoon to advance to next weekend’s SCIAC Championship. The Athenas took a 12-3 lead at the half before cruising to an 11-goal victory. Seven different Athenas scored in the victory, with Corie Hack (CMC) and Evan Murphy (CMC) lead the team with four goals each. In addition to her four goals, Murphy dished out three assists to help the Athenas to their second-straight SCIAC Championship game.

What a way to end the season. The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team swept the defending National Champions, Cal Lutheran, by scores of 8-7 and 13-3 to end the season on a high note. Trey Smith (CMC) smacked a walk-off home run off the left field foul pole on the first pitch in the bottom of the ninth in Game One to give the Stags an 8-7 victory before CMS collected 17 hits in the night-cap of the doubleheader to earn a run-rule victory by a 13-3 final.

The Athenas of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball earned the Game One victory over Cal Lutheran on Saturday, edging the Regals 1-0. The low scoring contest was scoreless through the first three innings, until Kawai Scanlan (SC) knocked in Chloe Amarilla (CMC) to put CMS on top 1-0 in the top of the fourth. Game Two did not fall in favor of the Athenas as they were run-ruled by Cal Lu 9-1 in five innings.

Sill Wins Discus as Stags Place Fourth at SCIAC Championships

The Stags of the No. 20 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s track and field team finished fourth at the 2018 SCIAC Championships over the weekend after compiling 124 points at the meet. Michael Sill (CMC) took home the lone first-place finish for the Stags, winning the discus with a mark of 44.12m (144’9”) on Friday.

The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced the Women's Lacrosse All-Conference team on Friday afternoon. Among the student-athletes named were eight Athenas, including the SCIAC Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Year. Corie Hack (CMC) was named the conference's Offensive Athlete of the Year and Evan Murphy (CMC) was tabbed as the Defensive Athlete of the Year. In addition to the eight athletes named All-SCIAC, head coach Lauren Uhr was honored as the SCIAC Coach of the Year.

Back-And-Forth Battle Favors Regals in SCIAC Semifinals

In a rematch of last Saturday's regular season finale, the Cal Lutheran Regals edged the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team, 6-5 in a back-and-forth SCIAC Semifinal. The Athenas had a chance with seven second left on the clock to tie the game, but Roxy Kiessling's (CMC) shot under heavy pressure missed just outside the right post and the Regals held on to advance to the SCIAC Championship Game on Sunday.

Stags Clipped by Kingsmen in Thousand Oaks

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team opened their final series of the 2018 season with a 5-0 loss against the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen on Friday afternoon in Thousand Oaks. Henri Levenson (CMC) led the Stags with a 3-4 effort at the dish with a double in the fifth inning. Levenson accounted for three of the Stags' five hits in the contest. Cal Lutheran scored a run in the bottom half of the first inning to get on the board early with a two-out rally. After a pair of fly outs to Levenson in right field the Kingsmen hit back-to-back doubles to take a 1-0 lead. The game remained 1-0 until a one-out single in the bottom of the fourth doubled the lead for Cal Lutheran. The Kingsmen plated three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 5-0 lead thanks to five-straight hits to begin the inning.

Halle Leads Athenas with Four Hits in Senior Day Split

April 27, 2018

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team honored seniors Carly Roleder (CMC), Briana Halle (CMC), and Anna Gurr (CMC) in a Senior Day celebration prior to Friday’s doubleheader against Pomona-Pitzer. Following the day’s festivities, the Athena’s split the final home games of the season, dropping Game One 3-0 before coming back to take Game Two 5-1.

On Thursday morning the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) released their All-Conference team. Among the student-athletes listed were a trio of Athenas. Jessica Gaffney (CMC) and Roxy Kiessling (CMC) were named First Team while sophomore Aracelia Aldrete (CMC) was named Second Team.
