Women's Rugby

In a clash of champions, the Claremont Women’s Rugby team (2016 DIV III West Region) defeated the University of California-Riverside (2014 DIV II National Champions) 27-12 on Parents Field on Saturday, Feb. 4. Katelyn Faust (CMC ’17) accounted for all of the Foxes scoring with three tries, being the beneficiary of a great defensive turnover by Karen Alpuche (PC '20), a great kick return by Maya Bhat (CMC '18), and a great pass by Camille Sacristan (SC '18) to set up her tries. Faust was also perfect with the boot with three conversions and two penalties. The win puts the Foxes at 2-0 in league play so far this season. The Foxes travel to Phoenix on Saturday, Feb. 11 to take on Grand Canyon University.

Men's Lacrosse

The Claremont Cougars Men’s Lacrosse Club opened their 59th season with a tough home game against the 23rd-ranked San Diego State Aztecs. Although buoyed by the scoring prowess of Logan Miller (CMC '19) and Patrick Thomas (CMC ’19) with three goals each, and 14 saves by senior goalie Jeff Allen (Pomona ’17), SDSU prevailed 18-10. More lacrosse action follows this week when the Occidental Tigers visit on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 8 p.m., and the Long Beach State 49ers visit on Sunday, Feb. 12 at noon. Both games will be played on the turf field at Pomona.

Men's Rugby

In the 2017 home opener for the Claremont Lions, the Lions announced their return to D1 when the team handed the University of San Diego a 31-5 defeat on Jan. 28 at Parents Field. A sizeable and vocal crowd saw the Lions control most aspects of the game, primarily driven by their performance in the scrum and line out. A four try to one victory was keyed by strong performances by Spencer Drazovich (CMC '17), Omar Rodrigues (CMC '19), Nick Urban (Pitzer '17) and Spencer Swensrud (Pomona '19). The Lions take a week off before a non-league match at UCLA on Saturday, Feb. 11, and then a league match at home versus Long Beach State on Feb 11 at 1 p.m. Please come and cheer us on as we aim for continued improvement.
