============ Spring – Women===============
Women’s Golf
A pair of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golfers finished in the top-5 to help lead CMS to a second place finish at the 2016 SCIAC Championships and a second place finish in the overall conference standings. CMS (939) finished behind Redlands (929) in both the final tournament and the final conference standings. Freshman Kelly Ransom (CMC) finished in fourth place overall (231), seven shots behind individual medalist Caroline Ordian of Redlands. She closed the tournament with her best round (and the Athenas' best round) of the event, a 3-over par 75. Sophomore Maya Bhat (CMC) came away in fifth place (236).
Women’s Lacrosse
The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s lacrosse team had a 10-7 loss to Chapman in the SCIAC Tournament semifinal game. Katie Hill (CMC ’18) recorded her fourth consecutive 3-plus goals game and ranks third on the team in goals for this season, behind Mikaela Connell (CMC ’18) and Corie Hack (CMC ’19). The Athenas now await a potential invite to the NCAA Championships.
Softball
In the final week of the regular season the Athenas went 3-1 with a split with Chapman and a sweep of Occidental. Anna Gurr (CMC ’17) pitched two complete shutouts while allowing only a combined three hits in 12 innings pitched. CMS (31-8-4 overall, 24-4 SCIAC) will enter the SCIAC Tournament as the number two seed and will take on number three Redlands on May 6 at La Verne.
Women’s Tennis
The CMS women’s tennis team defeated La Verne 9-0 in its only match of the week. The Athenas dominated across the board as they did not concede a single set to the Leopards. Now 16-4 overall, 7-1 SCIAC, CMS will next compete in the SCIAC Tournament as the number two seed with the first match being at home on May 6 before shifting to Pomona-Pitzer May 7-8.
Women’s Track & Field
Both CMS track & field teams won the SCIAC Championships for the third year in a row while leading throughout both days. Emily Bassett (CMC ’18) set a CMS record and the third best mark in Division III with a 55.58m, 182-04 win in the hammer throw, while Vaiva Palunas (SCR ’17) took home first place in the discus (47.28m, 155-01). Aiyanna Camerson-Lewis (CMC ’18) won and set the third fastest time in Division III in the 400 meters at 57.33 and sprinter Tyra Abraham (SCR ’18) captured first along with a new CMS, SCIAC and meet record in the 100 (11.87). In addition, Carmen Mejia (CMC ’17) bested a 31-year-old meet record in the 800 with a time of 2:12.85. CMS will next compete in the Claremont Classic May 5-6 and the Occidental Invite on May 7.

Baseball
In three games last week the CMS baseball team went 1-2, featuring a 6-2 win over Occidental. Sam Baughman (CMC ’17) pitched seven innings in the win while allowing two runs on four hits while Nolan Anderson (CMC ’18) went 3-4 with three runs scored and two RBI. The Stags will wrap up their season with their final game of the SCIAC round robin May 3 at home against Redlands.
Men’s Golf
When the final scorecards were turned in, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team had moved from fourth to first place and run away from the field to win the SCIAC Championships by 13 strokes on April 26 at Oak Valley Golf Course. CMS also won the overall conference championship, the 11th in program history and second in the last three seasons under head coach Bim Jollymour. By virtue of winning the SCIAC Championships, CMS earned an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships scheduled for the Midvale Country Club and Mendon Golf Club in Rochester, N.Y. from May 10-13. CMS finished 14-under par (274) in the final round and 3-over par (867) in the tournament on the par-72 course. Sophomore Matt Shuman (CMC) led the charge for CMS with eight birdies and 10 pars for a third round, 8-under, 64. His 64 was the lowest round for any golfer at the SCIAC Championships and helped Shuman move up from 13th after 36 holes to second place after Day 3. He finished at 2-under par (214) overall, four strokes behind individual medalist John McCord of Redlands (210).
Men’s Tennis
The pairing of Glenn Hull (CMC ’18) and Bryan Mehall (CMC) won their doubles match and respective singles matches to help the CMS men’s tennis team to a 7-2 victory over UC San Diego. The win puts the Stags at 22-4 overall, 7-0 SCIAC on the year and the number one seed heading into the SCIAC Tournament. The Stags will open the tournament May 6 at home against Occidental.
Men’s Track & Field
Both CMS track & field teams won the SCIAC Championships for the third year in a row while leading throughout both days. Cam Van (CMC ’18) won the high jump (2.02m, 6-07.50) and the triple jump (14.53, 47-08.00) while Evan Molineux (CMC ’16) earned first in the 1500 event at 3:52.25. CMS will next compete in the Claremont Classic May 5-6 and the Occidental Invite on May 7.

Men’s Rugby
In the NSCRO national semifinals on April 30 in Colorado, Claremont defeated Eastern Connecticut State 14-7 in what a times were blizzard conditions. The Lions went into Sunday's national championship match pretty beaten up with a number of key starters out or hobbling into the game. The Lions put up a valiant fight for 78 minutes playing to a 21-19 score with a chance to take the lead, but Mt. Saint Mary's scored a try in the last minute to seal the victory, 26-19. The Lions finish second in NSCRO out of 240 men's college teams from across the country and are an extremely young team graduating only two starters, and five seniors total out of a roster of 32. The future is bright for the Claremont Colleges Rugby Program. Next up is the 7's national championships in Philadelphia in early June.
