CMS Athletics Week In Review (1/5/ - 1/11/15)

Athletics Week In Review (Extended Version - Word)

=========== Fall – Women=============

Women’s Basketball
The Athena basketball team went 2-0 last week, beating Caltech 77-43 and Chapman 59-51.  Against Chapman, Kimberly Scamman (CMC ’15) had 20 points while Quinn Glosniak (CMC ’17) grabbed eight rebounds. CMS is now 11-3 overall, 5-0 in SCIAC. The Athenas face Whittier College at home on Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m. and then host La Verne at 5 p.m. Jan. 17 at the Rains Center located at Pomona College.

Women’s Swimming and Diving
The Athena swimming and diving team went 1-1 last week with a loss to D-II Cal Baptist, 90-152 and a win over SCIAC opponent Cal Lutheran, 246-30. Against Cal Lutheran, LillyBelle Deer (CMC ’15) won multiple events as she placed first in the 200-yard medley relay, 500-yard freestyle and 400-yard freestyle relay. Also against Cal Lutheran Kelly Ngo (CMC ’17) won multiple events as she placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard backstroke and 400-yard freestyle relay. CMS improved to 3-0 in conference meets. CMS’ next meet is at La Verne at 11 a.m. on Jan. 17.

===================== Winter – Men ====================

Men’s Basketball
The Stag basketball team went 1-1 last week, beating Caltech 58-33, then losing to Chapman 73-68. Against Caltech, Tyler Gaffaney (CGU) scored 21 points and against Chapman Shelby Lane (CMC ’16) had a team-high 12 rebounds. CMS is now 9-3 overall, 2-1 in SCIAC. The Stags host Whittier College on Jan. 13 at 7:30 p.m. and then host La Verne at 7:00 p.m. on Jan. 17. Both games are at the Rains Center located at Pomona College.

Men’s Swimming and Diving
The Stag swimming and diving team went 1-1 last week with a tough loss to top-25, D-II Cal Baptist 107-126 and a win against SCIAC opponent Cal Lutheran, 222-69. Against Cal Lutheran, Matthew Williams (CMC ’17) won multiple evens as he placed first in the 200-yard medley relay, 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard backstroke, while James Stevick (CMC ’15) also won multiple events as he placed first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions. CMS improved to 3-0 in conference meets. CMS’ next meet is at La Verne at 11 a.m. on Jan. 17.
