CMS Women's Water Polo Takes 17-5 Road Win over Whittier

WHITTIER, Calif. - Grace Clark had five goals and an assist to lead the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team to a 17-5 win at Whittier on Wednesday evening.

With the win, CMS improves to 11-7 overall on the season, as well as 3-1 in SCIAC, earning its third straight win since an overtime loss to Pomona-Pitzer to open the conference slate. 

Elise Power, Valerie Wraith and Caitlin Muñoz each added two goals and an assist, whle Cooper McKenna scored twice for the Athenas. Fiona Murphy, Cassandra Ruedy, Isabel DelVillar and Lily Pashman also added goals, as CMS used an 11-0 run spanning both halves to take command.

CMS jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on goals from Clark and McKenna, but Whittier was able to get within 3-2, before DelVillar and Muñoz closed out the first quarter with tallies to give CMS a 5-2 lead and start the 11-0 run.

The Athenas outscored Whittier 6-0 in the second quarter to take an 11-2 lead into the break, with Power capping it off with two goals in the final two minutes. Clark started the second half with two straight goals, and Muñoz finished off the 11-0 run with 2:19 left in the third. 

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it takes on Caltech at 11 a.m. and Brown at 4 p.m.
