CMS Women's Water Polo Closes Out Convergence with 14-4 Win over Conn College

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Five different players had two goals apiece as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team wrapped up play at the Claremont Convergence with a 14-4 win over Connecticut College on Saturday at Axelrood Pool.

Earlier in the day, CMS fell 13-5 to Division II Azusa Pacific as it moves its overall record to 6-4, including 5-0 against Division III teams, as the Athenas maintained their No. 2 ranking in Division III. 

In the nightcap, Jessi Beyer, Mia Adsen, Ka'imi Duncklee, Isabel Dhillon and Cassandra Ruedy each had two goals, with Ruedy finishing with a team-high four points on two goals and two assists. 

CMS took control in the first, outscoring the Camels 4-0 on goals from Cooper McKenna, Dhillon, Adsen and Ruedy. Beyer scored both of her goals in the second quarter, to help CMS inch out to a 7-2 halftime lead. 

In the second half, Adsen got things started quickly for CMS with a goal, and Dunklee scored two in a row to make it a 10-3 CMS advantage. Courtney Coleman, Emily McElroy, Dhillon and Emma Brezoczky added fourth quarter goals for the Athenas. 

Maribella Munoz-Jiminez had nine saves in three quarters of work in goal, after Jessica Salaz stopped all four shots she faced in the first. 

Against Azusa Pacific, the Athenas fell into a 4-0 hole before Natalie Clark scored late in the first quarter, and APU was able to etend the lead up to 7-1 early in the second. Christina Kulick finished with two goals and an assist, and McKenna added a goal and an assist. 

CMS will be back in action in one week when it travels for a road game against Pomona-Pitzer, in a battle between the teams ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the nation in Division III.
