Chandlyr Denaro Earns SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week Honor for CMS Women's Water Polo

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore Chandlyr Denaro, who spent almost all of last season as a goalie, was named the SCIAC Women's Water Polo Offensive Player of the Week for matches through Saturday, Feb. 17, the league office announced today.

Denaro scored three goals all of last season in limited action outside of the cage, and eclipsed that in one match on Saturday, helping the Athenas take an 11-6 non-league win over Redlands. Denaro scored a match-high four goals, as CMS used a big run to turn a close 4-3 game in the second quarter to a 10-3 lead in the third. 

The win was the first of the season for CMS, which opened up with a tough tournament on Jan. 26, falling to No. 1 USC and No. 24 Cal Baptist. After three weeks off, the Athenas returned to action at Redlands, and Denaro helped jump-start the offense by finding the net four times to give CMS a win in its first Division III match of the year. 

CMS will get its home scheduled started on Wednesday, when it hosts Toronto for a 7 p.m. contest at Axelrood Pool. One week later, the Athenas will welcome in Chapman on Wednesday, Feb. 27 for their SCIAC opener.
