Jackie Jones Earns Offensive Player of the Week Award for CMS Volleyball

CLAREMONT, Calif. - On the heels of leading CMS volleyball to wins over No. 1 Trinity and No. 2 Emory on the same day, Jackie Jones earned the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Year Award, the league office announced today.

Jones had an efficient performance against Trinity, recording 10 kills in only 19 attempts as the Athenas took down the top-ranked Tigers in four sets on Saturday on the second day of the East-West Battle hosted by Cal Lutheran.

In the second match of the day, though, Jones put forth a signature performance in a 3-1 win over Emory, putting down 20 kills in 36 attempts with only two errors for an even .500 hitting percentage. She shattered her previous high of 13 kills, which she set as a first-year against Cal Lutheran.

CMS improved to 7-0 on the season with the three wins, and stands poised to move up the national rankings when they are released tomorrow. The Athenas began the week ranked No. 6 in the nation, but could potentially return to the No. 1 spot for the first time since the final 2017 poll, after CMS captured the national championship.

The Athenas will be back in action in one week, when they begin SCIAC play with a home match against Whittier on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m.
