All Athenas in Sixth Street Rivalry Rematch

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Taking on their next-door neighbors the No. 8 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's volleyball team dominated the Sagehens and completed a 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-13) sweep for their 11th-straight victory. In the match, CMS swung at a .373 clip highlighted by the effort from Margaux Arntson (CMC) who connected for a match-high 14 kills on 22 swings.

Mikena Werner (SC) collected a match-high 15 digs, while sisters, Clara Madsen (CMC) and Phoebe Madsen (CMC), each dished out double-digit assists.

The opening set remained close until the Athenas pulled away with a 13-4 run that opened up an 11-point advantage for CMS. The streak featured kills from five different Athenas and gave CMS a comfortable 21-10 lead. Despite the Sagehens winning the next three points, the Athenas closed out the set will kills from Shellbi Stein (CMC) and Arntson on two of the final three points to take the set 25-15.

The second set featured much of the same from the country's eighth-ranked team. The Athenas steadily built their lead throughout the set and closed out the game with a 9-2 run. The streak gave the Athenas the set by a 25-10 final and opened up a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third set, the Athenas went on two separate 8-1 runs to handle their rivals by a 25-13 mark in the set. The first of those two runs turned a 6-5 game into a 14-6 advantage, while the second 8-1 run put the match away late. CMS held a 16-11 lead that quickly turned into a 24-12 advance behind the strong streak. Two points later the Athenas were celebrating their 11th-straight victory.

The Athenas will wrap-up the regular season this week with three matches. CMS will start the week with a home match against Occidental on Tuesday night in Roberts Pavilion. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
