Efficient night for Athenas in 3-0 win over Redlands

CLAREMONT, Calif. – In their most efficient hitting night in SCIAC play, the No. 10 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps volleyball team earned their fifth win in conference. The Athenas hit .349 and only made eight errors over the three set match beating Redlands 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-17).

The wealth was spread out over seven players with kills on the night. Freshmen Hannah Grobisen (CMC) and Kimmy Tuttle (CMC) had big nights as neither committed an error and combined for nine kills. Sophomore Sarah Bruml (SCR) led CMS with seven kills over the three sets.

The first two games flew by as the Athenas limited the Bulldogs to hitting just .078 as they barely inched into double-digit points.

In the third set, Redlands came on strong with a handful of kills by Ashton Martin. The Athenas contributed to the Bulldogs' success with an uncannily high error count early in the set. After the game knotted up at 11 points apiece, the Athenas returned to their usual form and sophomore Crystal Anderson (CMC) nailed down a pair of kills and then finished out the match with two service aces.

The steady libero, sophomore Mikena Werner (SCR) led all players with 15 digs on the night and junior Natalie Creekmur (CMC) added six.

The Athenas (15-4, 5-2 SCIAC) host Sixth Street rivals, Pomona-Pitzer (8-8, 3-4 SCIAC) on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at the Linde Activities Center.
