Elle Marsyla Posts Top-20 Time in 10000 Meters at Azusa Pacific

AZUSA, Calif. - Elle Marsyla moved into 19th place in Division III this season in the 10000 meters with a time of 35:30.88 at the Franson Last Chance Meet held at Azusa Pacific this weekend.

The time took over 17 seconds off of Marsyla's PR that she set earlier this season at the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival, and moved her inside the cutline (top 22) to qualify for the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships later this month, with just a few days left in qualifying.

Marsyla, who earned All-America honors during cross country season in the fall, also moved up to fourth place in CMS history in the 10000 meters with her time. Meredith Bloss set the program record in 2022 with a 34:35.52, while Jennifer Tave is second at 35:22.27 and Sara Mostatabi third in 35:29.43.

Riley Capuano also moved up to third place in CMS history in the 1500 meters with a 4:26.61, behind only current teammates Laura Zimmer and Natalie Bitetti, with all three currently holding NCAA qualifying times in the top 10 nationally (Zimmer third, Bitetti eighth, Capuano 10th). Revere Schmidt moved into seventh place in the steeplechase with an 11:10.45. Capuano, Zimmer, Bitetti and Schmidt were all also part of the Athena cross country team in the fall that finished fourth in the nation.

Several CMS athletes will compete at Redlands on Wednesday in the final day to earn qualifying marks before the field is announced for the NCAA Division III Championships in Myrtle Beach.
