CMS Women's Track and Field Sweeps First SCIAC Multi-Duals
EAGLE ROCK, Calif. - Josephine Jett swept the 100 meters, the 200 meters, and the 100-meter hurdles to lead the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team to a pair of wins at the first SCIAC Multi-Duals which were held on the campus of Occidental College on Saturday.
Four teams competed, although CMS only scored in duals against two of the others, defeating Cal Lutheran 100-60 and La Verne 107-37.
Jett edged out Dawson Bell of La Verne in both sprints, winning the 100 by a margin of .11 (12.67 to 12.78) and then taking the 200 by a margin of .13 (26.71 to 26.84). She then ran a 15.21 in the hurdles to win by over a second.
In the other track events, Sally Gaskell edged out teammate Angie Gushue in the 800 meters 2:20.23 to 2:21.99, and Elle Marsyla won a tight battle between Athenas over Sara Wexler in the 1500 (4:41.26 to 4:43.03).
Revere Schmidt took the 5000 meters in 18:31.90 with teammate Phoebe Wolfe Lyons second, while Olivia Schleifer won big in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:12.97, as did Hannah Weaver in the steeplechase in 11:49.07.
Madeline Seifert picked up a win in the pole vault with a clearance of 9-11.75 (3.04 meters). Katelyn Sewell earned a discus win with a throw of 110 feet even, and Antonia Hekster had a dominant win in the hammer with a throw of 143-1, almost 20 feet over second place Cheyanne Rodriguez of Cal Lutheran.
CMS will return to Occidental next weekend for the annual Distance and Sprint Carnival.
