McKillop National Runner-Up, Abraham Fifth at NCAA Indoors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team had two athletes place in the top-five in their respective events at the NCAA Indoor National Championships on Saturday afternoon. Bryn McKillop (SC) was the National Runner-Up in the 3,000 meter run, finishing with a time of 9:39.04. Tyra Abraham (SC) placed fifth in the 60 meter dash, clocking a time of 7.668. With All-American finishes from Abraham and McKillop, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps finished the Championships tied for 18th-place with 12 points in their first appearance at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championship Meet.

Day Two Update (Mar. 10, 2018)

McKillop was on the podium at an NCAA meet for the second time this school-year. On Saturday, she finished as the National Runner-Up in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 9:39.04. In the fall, McKillop earned her first National Runner-Up finish at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships. During the 15-lap race on Saturday, McKillop was in the lead pack of the 17-runner field for the majority of the race. In the final 400 meters, Brandeis' Emily Bryson pulled away to earn the National Championship. McKillop hustled to the line and earned National Runner-Up honors by edging third-place finisher Emily Richards of Ohio Northern (9:39.29) by less than three tenths of a second. 

After winning her heat in the prelims on Friday, Abraham took to the starting line on Saturday as the third seed in the Finals. She finished fifth among strong competition including Wadeline Jonathas of UMass Boston, who set a new NCAA Division III Indoor Meet Record in her prelim on Friday at 7.40. Jonathas took the crown with a time of 7.41. Abraham was edged by the fourth-place runner by just five one thousandths of a second.

Day One Update (Mar. 9, 2018)

Tyra Abraham (SC) competed in the prelims of the 60 meter dash at the NCAA Indoor National Championships on Friday afternoon. Abraham won the second heat to advance to Saturday's National Championship Final along with seven other runners. Her time of 7.65 in the event was one hundredth of a second faster than her seed time and was the third quickest time of the 17-runner field in the prelims.

With three heats of qualifiers, the winners of each heat automatically advanced to Saturday's Final along with the next five fastest times also advancing to the Finals. Abraham's time was the fastest in her heat by nearly a tenth of a second and was the third fastest in the prelims overall. Wadeline Jonathas of UMass Boston turned in the fastest time in the prelims with a mark of 7.40 to set a new NCAA Division III Indoor Meet Record.

Quinn Harlan (7.54) of Roanoke was the only other run to clock a faster time than Abraham on Friday.

Abraham, Jonathas, Harlan, and the rest of the Finals field will line up at the starting line on Saturday afternoon at 2:35 p.m. CT/12:35 p.m. PT for sprint to a National Championship.

Abraham will not be the only Athena running for a National Championship tomorrow. Bryn McKillop (SC) will also be in action, racing in the 3,000 meter run at 4:45 p.m. CT/2:45 p.m. PT.
