Four CMS Student-Athletes Earn Indoor All-Region Accolades

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Earlier this week, four CMS track and field athletes were honored by the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), garnering Indoor All-West Region nods. Among the honorees were Tyra Abraham (SC), Emily Bassett (CMC), Bryn McKillop (SC), and Thomas D'Anieri (CMC).

D'Anieri was the lone Stag to earn All-West Indoor honors. He ran in just one indoor race this season at the Tufts Indoor Invite #1 all the way back on Jan. 13. He won the 5,000 meter run in a time of 14:47.53. His time is the 37th fastest time in the country this season in the event.

On the women's side, CMS picked up five honors across three athletes. Tyra Abraham and Emily Bassett were named All-West Region in two different events. Abraham had the fastest 60 meter time in the West with a sprint of 7.66 at the SPU Final Qualifier on Feb. 24. Her time is the fourth fastest in the country heading into the Indoor National Championships. She also earned an All-Region nod in the 200 meter dash with the fourth fastest time in the West with a mark of 25.67 at the SPU Final Qualifier.

Emily Bassett also earned a pair of All-West selections with top two Regional marks in the Shot Put and Weight Throw. Her mark of 16.68 meters in the weight throw was the top mark in the West Region and just outside the qualifying mark for the National Championships at 22nd in the country this season. In the shot put, Basset turned in the second best mark in the region with a 12.15 meter mark in the SPU Final Qualifier.

Bryn McKillop also had her strongest performance of the season at the SPU Final Qualifier in the 3,000 meter run. She qualified for the National Championships with a time of 9:49.43 in the race. Her time is the top mark in the west region and 16th in the country heading to the Indoor Championships.
