Athenas Post Eight First-Place Finishes, Sweep First SCIAC Multi Dual

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team dominated the first SCIAC Multi Dual of the season at Occidental College on Saturday. The Athenas defeated all three conference opponents at the event, beating Occidental (99-64), La Verne (122-40), and Chapman (157-4) by convincing margins. The Athenas also posted eight first-place finishes throughout the day.

On the Track

Tyra Abraham was strong in the 100m and 200m dashes. She earned the top spot in both with times of 11.94 and 25.11, respectively. In addition to her two individual first-place finishes, she was also part of the 4x100 relay team, along with Grace Pratt (CMC), Danielle Honan (CMC), and Nirel JonesMitchell (CMC) that took first with a time of 47.50.

Honan (12.63) and JonesMitchell (12.65) came in fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 100m dash. The pair also placed in the top ten in the 200m event. Honan took sixth (26.39) in the 200 meter dash, while JonesMitchell finished in fourth (26.17).

Pratt took the second spot in the 400m dash with a time of 1:01.80 and teammate Katie Snell (CMC) finished fourth in the event, crossing the line in 1:05.03.

Bryn McKillop (SC) had a great showing in the distance events, winning both the 800m (2:15.21) and 1500m (4:34.40) runs. Abby Johnson (SC) finished fourth in the 800m with a mark of 2:22.62. Roselyn Cantu (CMC) took the fourth spot in the 1500m, running her race in 4:43.35.

Lauren Stanislaw (SC) (19:00.21), Natalie Marsh (SC) (19:11.25), Dulcie Jones (SC) (19:22.56), and Meghan Bobrowsky (SC) (19:32.84) finished two through five, respectively, in the 5000m run.

Sabrine Griffith (CMC) finished second in the 100m hurdles with a 15.01 mark. Deyana Marsh (HMC) and Aubrey Egerter (HMC) also finished in the top-five in that event.

Ellen Berkley (CMC) won with 3000m steeplechase by over 20 seconds with a time of 11:22.84.

In the Field

Amelia Otto Cutting (HMC) finished second in the high jumping, leaping to a mark of 1.55m. In the pole vault, Dani Chami (CMC) hit the 3.05m mark to finish in second in the event.

Griffith also participated in the long jump, taking second with a mark of 5.26m.

Emily Bassett (CMC) was a force to be reckoned with, capturing the top spot in three events. She won the shot put (11.79m), discus throw (39.41m), and hammer (58.49m) by wide margins over the field. Her most impressive showing came in the hammer throw where she won the event by more than 15 meters over the second-place finisher. 

The Athenas are back in action next Saturday when they travel back to Occidental fro the Oxy Distance and Sprint Carnival on Mar. 10.
