  • Hall of Fame Class of 2018 Inducted at CMS
    November 14, 2018
    Four new members were inducted into the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletics Alumni Association Hall of Fame at the 2018 Hall of Fame Banquet and induction ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 10. The ceremony was held at Claremont McKenna College's Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum, marking the 28th Hall of Fame induction class at CMS.
  • Both Track and Field Programs Earn Academic Team and Individual Awards

    A total of 10 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps track & field team members were USTFCCCA All-Academic Individuals for the 2018 season. In addition to the individual awards, both the Athenas and Stags were All-Academic Teams in 2018 with cumulative GPAs of 3.47 and 3.33, respectively.

    Two-sport star Margaret Loncki (CMC '18) and sprinter Tyra Abraham (SC '18) from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps have been nominated for the 2018 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

    Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field's Tyra Abraham (SC) was named to the 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-America Women's Track/Cross Country Second Team by CoSIDA on June 19.
  • CMS has another record year in the Directors’ Cup standings

    Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletics is ranked third in the 2017-18 Division III Learfield Directors’ Cup standings, the program’s highest finish ever. This is the second-straight year that CMS has finished in the top-5 in the country.
  • Abraham Earns Academic All-District

    Fresh off her National Title in the 100 meter dash, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s track and field’s Tyra Abraham (SC) was named to the 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-District Women’s Track/Cross Country Team by CoSIDA. The award recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
  • Bassett and Stewart Earn Regional Awards

    The USTFCCCA announced their Regional Awards on Wednesday at the banquet prior to the NCAA DIII Track and Field National Championship. Emily Bassett (CMC) was named the West Region Field Athlete of the Year after a stellar year in the throwing events, highlighted by a masterpiece in the hammer throw (62.04m, 203’6”) at the Long Beach Invitational on Apr. 20. Head coach Glenn Stewart was named West Region Coach of the Year.
  • Abraham, Bassett, and McKillop Win Individual Titles, CMS Places Fourth at NCAA DIII National Championships

    Led by a trio of seniors, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s track and field team made history at the 2018 NCAA DIII Track and Field National Championships. The Athenas earned the highest team finish in program history, placing fourth with 36 points, and won three individual titles along the way. Tyra Abraham (SC) started the day by winning the 100 meter dash National Title (11.87) for the second time in her career. Emily Bassett (CMC) continued the winning trend with a huge victory in the hammer throw (62.51m). Bryn McKillop (SC) finished the day for CMS as the National Champion in the 5000 meter run (16:36.17). Both Bassett and McKillop set new school records in their events. The three individual titles are the most won by CMS in a single NCAA Championship.
  • Race for the National Title Begins Thursday for Athenas

    The No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s track and field team is sending seven different athletes to the 2018 NCAA DIII Track and Field National Championships this weekend in La Crosse, Wis. to compete for a shot at the program’s first National Title. Tyra Abraham (SC) and Nirel JonesMitchell (CMC) both qualified for three events (100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, and 4x100 meter relay), while senior Emily Bassett (CMC) looks to continue a strong season in the throwing events (discus and hammer throws).
  • CMS Well-Represented at NCAA National Championships

    Claremont-Mudd-Scripps track and field is heading to La Crosse, Wis. For the 2018 NCAA DIII Track and Field National Championships. The No. 2 Athenas are well represented, sending seven different athletes to compete in seven events. The lone Stag headed to Wisconsin is Thomas D’Anieri (CMC) who will compete in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Competition begins Thursday, May 24, and more information will be available on cmsathletics.org later this week.
  • Bassett Qualifies in Discus at Redlands Final Qualifier

    In the final meet before the NCAA Track and Field National Championships next weekend, the No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team got some last minute work in at the Redlands Final Qualifier. The two-day event began Wednesday and was highlighted by a discus throw from Emily Bassett (CMC). The senior hit a new personal record in the event, throwing her implement a distance of 45.22m (148'4"), solidifying her spot at number two in the CMS record books.
  • CMS Claims 10th-Straight SCIAC All-Sports Trophy

    For the 10th-straight year and 30th time in program history, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletic Department claimed the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Combined All-Sports Trophy. The Athenas earned 94 points this season and won the All-Sports Trophy on the women’s side by a 19-point margin, claiming their eighth-straight and 23rd overall. The Stags finished third in the standings on the men’s side with 65.5 points. Pomona-Pitzer won the men’s All-Sports Trophy.
  • Schulz and Mknelly Compete at Claremont Classic

    A week after competeing at the 2018 SCIAC Championships, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps track and field teams were represented at the Claremont Classic Multis, hosted by CMS. Connor Schulz (CMC) and Bailey Mknelly (SC) took part in the two-day event, with Schulz taking fifth in the decathlon (2878 points) and Mknelly taking sixth in the heptathlon (3377 points).
  • Abraham and Bassett Headline All-SCIAC Awards for Athenas, Stewart Named Coach of the Year

    The 2018 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) women's track & field teams were announced Wednesday following a vote conducted by the league's member head coaches. After winning their fourth-straight SCIAC Championship, the Athenas raked in the all-conference honors, headlined by Tyra Abraham (SC) taking home SCIAC Track Athlete of the Year, Emily Bassett (CMC) being named SCIAC Field Athlete of the Year, and head coach Glenn Stewart and his staff earning their second-straight SCIAC Coaching Staff of the Year honor.
  • Athenas Run Away with SCIAC Track and Field Championship Title

    Complete domination. That is what describes the performance of the No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s track and field team at the 2018 SCIAC Track and Field Championships. The Athenas captured 208 points, 46 more than the second-place team, and a total of 10 first-place finishes en route to their fourth-straight SCIAC Track and Field Championship over the weekend. They and were led by Tyra Abraham (SC) who secured three first-place finishes. The senior won both the 100 meter dash (11.59), and the 200 meter dash (24.32), setting a new CMS record in both. She also ran the anchor leg in the 4x100 meter relay team that finished their race at the top of the podium for the second year in a row.
  • Bassett Rewrites the Record Books in Hammer Throw

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s track and field team competed all over Southern California this weekend with athletes at the Mt. SAC Relays, Azusa Pacific’s Bryan Clay Invitational, and at the Long Beach State Invitational. An Impressive showing from Bryn McKillop (SC) got the weekend off to a solid start for the Athenas. McKillop moved up to second all-time in the CMS record books with a time if 16:45.75 in the 5000 meter run. Emily Bassett (CMC) etched her name in CMS, SCIAC, and NCAA Division III history on Friday at the Long Beach State Invitational. The senior not only shattered both the CMS and SCIAC record, but recorded the third farthest hammer throw in NCAA Division III history with a mark of 62.04m.
  • 4x100 Meter Relay Breaks Record for Second Week in a Row

    The Athenas of No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps track and field made history – again. The 4x100 meter relay team of Sabrine Griffith (CMC), Grace Pratt (CMC), Nirel JonesMitchell (CMC), and Tyra Abraham (SC) broke the CMS and SCIAC record for the second week in a row with a time of 46.70 to highlight the SCIAC Multi Dual meet hosted by CMS on Saturday. The Athenas came away with three wins, defeating Redlands 99.50-62.50, Pomona-Pitzer 122.50-39.50, and Caltech 149.0-12.0. By defeating every opponent this season, the Athenas have completed four-straight undefeated SCIAC seasons.
  • 4x100 Meter Relay Makes History at Pomona-Pitzer Invite

    The No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field continued their successful season on Saturday when they crossed the street to compete at the 2018 Pomona-Pitzer Invitational. New CMS records were set in the 4x100 meter relay and the hammer throw. In the 4x100 meter relay, Sabrine Griffith (CMC), Danielle Honan (CMC), Nirel JonesMitchell (CMC), and Tyra Abraham (SC) shattered the school record by almost half a second. Their time of 46.82 set not only a new CMS record, but a new SCIAC record as well. It is the top time in Division III this season.
  • Bassett Sets CMS Record, Athenas Impress in Whittier

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s track and field team had another impressive showing this weekend at the SCIAC Multi Dual hosted by Whittier College. The Athenas cruised to two victories, outscoring Cal Lutheran 116.5-45.5 and Whittier 99.0-62.0. Emily Bassett (CMC) set a new CMS record in the hammer throw with a mark of 58.90m and Nirel JonesMitchell (CMC) climbed the list in both the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash.
  • McKillop and Abraham Set Top DIII Marks as Athenas Impress at SDSU Invite

    The No. 5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s track and field team made an impression this weekend alongside top Division I and II programs at the SDSU Invitational. The weekend began with a new CMS record and top Division III time from Bryn McKillop (SC) in the 1500m. On Day Two, Tyra Abraham (SC) set a new CMS record and top Division III time in the 100 meter dash.
  • Gallop Puts Herself in CMS Record Books After Winning Javelin at Redlands Invite

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s track and field team posted two top finishes at the Redlands Invitational, both coming in field events. Emily Bassett (CMC) posted a first-place finish in one of her three events, before Amanda Gallop (SC) put her name in the CMS records books with her win in the javelin (39.12m). The 4x100 team also put up a top-10 time in program history after taking third in the event. Tyra Abraham (SC) posted the fastest 100 meter dash in Division III this season with a time of 11.89. The team of Grace Pratt (CMC), Danielle Honan (CMC), Nirel JonesMitchell (CMC), and Tyra Abraham (SC) put together the sixth best 4x100 relay performance in program history, finishing third with the top Division III mark at the meet with a time of 47.66.
  • Athenas Turn In Strong Performances at Oxy Carnival

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s track and field team was in action on Saturday, braving the rain at the Oxy Sprint and Distance Carnival. Though not the entire team participated, multiple Athenas posted top-10 finishes.
  • McKillop National Runner-Up, Abraham Fifth at NCAA Indoors

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team had two athletes place in the top-five in their respective events at the NCAA Indoor National Championships on Saturday afternoon. Bryn McKillop (SC) was the National Runner-Up in the 3,000 meter run, finishing with a time of 9:39.04. Tyra Abraham (SC) placed fifth in the 60 meter dash, clocking a time of 7.668. With All-American finishes from Abraham and McKillop, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps finished the Championships tied for 18th-place with 12 points in their first appearance at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championship Meet.
  • Abraham, McKillop Ready for Indoor National Championships

    In the program’s first year participating in indoor track and field, two Athenas will be representing CMS at the 2018 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships. Tyra Abraham (SC) and Bryn McKillop (SC) are making the trip to Alabama to compete in the National Championships hosted at the Birmingham CrossPlex by Birmingham-Southern College. Both Abraham and McKillop qualified with strong performances at the Seattle Pacific Final Qualifier on Feb. 24. The meet is set for this weekend, with events beginning on Friday.
  • Four CMS Student-Athletes Earn Indoor All-Region Accolades

    Earlier this week, four CMS track and field athletes were honored by the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), garnering Indoor All-West Region nods. Among the honorees were Tyra Abraham (SC), Emily Bassett (CMC), Bryn McKillop (SC), and Thomas D’Anieri (CMC). Abraham and McKillop will compete in the Indoor National Championships this weekend in Birmingham, Ala. Check CMSathletics.org later this week for a preview of their races.
  • Athenas Post Eight First-Place Finishes, Sweep First SCIAC Multi Dual

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team dominated the first SCIAC Multi Dual of the season at Occidental College on Saturday. The Athenas defeated all three conference opponents at the event, beating Occidental (99-64), La Verne (122-40), and Chapman (157-4) by convincing margins. The Athenas also posted eight first-place finishes throughout the day. The Athenas are back in action next Saturday when they travel back to Occidental fro the Oxy Distance and Sprint Carnival on Mar. 10.
  • Athenas Take Fifth at Rossi Relays, Abraham Impresses in Seattle

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team took part in the Rossi Relays, hosted by CMS, on Saturday and finished fifth as a team in the field of 19. Two Athenas were also in action in Seattle, finishing with top marks.
  • Abraham Leads the Charge at Pomona-Pitzer All Comers

    The Athenas had an impressive showing at the Pomona-Pitzer All Comers meet, with multiple top-ten finishes and two Athenas winning their event. Tyra Abraham (SC) led the effort for the Athenas, winning the 100 meter and was the top collegiate finisher in the 200 meter. Emily Basset (CMC) had a great showing, placing second in the shot put (11.93m) and discus (38.66m) before winning the hammer throw with a toss of 55.28m.
  • Women's Track and Field Set To Begin 2018 Schedule

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s track and field team is just hours away from getting the 2018 season underway. While Bryn McKillop (SC) raced at the University of Washington two weeks ago, tomorrow’s meet at the Westfield Wake-Up will serve as a more official start to the 2018 season. In addition to their normal outdoor slate, the Athenas will compete in a handful of indoor events including tomorrow’s meet at Westfield and the Howie Ryan Invite at the University of Houston (Feb. 9).

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s track and field team opened the 2018 season at the Westmont On Your Marks Meet on Saturday. The Athenas’ effort was highlighted by a pair of victories from 2017 All-Americans. Emily Bassett (CMC) claimed the weight throw with a toss of 15.66 meters and Tyra Abraham (SC) won the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.52.
