Alisha Chulani Earns SCIAC Athlete of the Week Honors for CMS Women's Tennis

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Alisha Chulani of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team earned the SCIAC Athlete of the Week award for events through Sunday, March 3, the conference office announced today.

Chulani went 6-0 in singles and doubles to lead the Athenas to the title at the ITA Indoor Championships over the weekend, including dominant performances in the quarterfinals against No. 10 Carnegie Mellon and the finals against No. 2 Chicago, producing identical 6-2, 6-1 wins. She also responded after dropping the first set in a tiebreaker in the semifinals against No. 8 Johns Hopkins before prevailing 6-7, 6-3, 6-1. 

In doubles, Chulani and Nikolina Batoshvili had a 6-0 win in the semifinals against Hopkins, and capped off the weekend with a 6-3 victory against Chicago in a match that pitted the top two teams in the country in the national rankings. They also had a 6-4 win in the quarterfinals against Carnegie Mellon. 

CMS will be back in action on Friday for a pair of home contests against Kenyon and Sewanee, as the Athenas will try to build on their 7-0 record to start the 2024 season as they pursue their third straight national championship this spring.
